Case Study: Rock Solid Solutions – Keeping Your Laboratory Clean With New LEV
EF Specialists were thrilled when a Glasgow University appointed us to install a new bespoke extraction system to serve the rock crushing operations in Lab room.
To do so we have supplied and installed of 3 100mm diameter FX2 extraction arms to cover both Retch machines, the BICO and the sieve area. 1 No arm will covered the Retsch BB100 and sieve area, with only one of the two areas usable with extraction at any one time. From each arm the ducting system turns back towards a the new dust collection unit (AutoM 15).
This unit vents back into the room via a HEPA filter to protect the operators from harmful silica dusts. This new unit is a mechanical shaker style dust collector, this removes the need for compressed air connections.
We also completed the full mechanical and electrical installation of the new system.
In order to ensure proper flow within the ductwork we fitted a completely new and redesigned header, complete with dampers and chevron airflow indicators.
All existing ductwork and equipment were removed from the area for the customer to dispose of.
Volume and Utilisation
| Size (mm Ø) | Description | Quantity | Transport Velocity (m/s) | Capture Velocity (m/s) | Airflow (m3/hr) |
| 100 | Retsch BB100 and Sieve area | 1 | >17.5 | >0.5 | 500 |
| 100 + 50 back connection | Retsch BB200 | 1 | >17.5 | >0.5 | 620 |
| 100 | BICO Pulv. | 1 | >17.5 | >0.5 | 500 |
Upon completion of the works and a short running period, the system was commissioned to ensure the design parameters were being met from the specification.
