Industrial Air Filtration Experts In Scotland
Find out moreLocal Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) is an engineering control system used to control hazardous substances (e.g. dust, fume, gases or vapours). EFS are the leading specialists in dust extraction and fume removal solutions for the workplace.
We offer uniquely independent consulting engineering services for LEV equipment. Our team also provide industrial air filtration solutions to reduce energy and emissions for high throughput processes.
Stay safe, stay compliant, and protect your people and business with EFS LEV services.
LEV Commissioning and Balancing
EFS provide a comprehensive Commissioning and Balancing Service for LEV.
We carry out the commissioning of a LEV system to ensure that your system is working in accordance with the design specification. Correct commissioning is particularly important for the handover process for Mechanical Engineers. The commissioning report we provide becomes the comparison data for future LEV assessors to compare future results.
In theory, this forms the first LEV test as we also assess the performance of the hood. We carry out this work to HSG258 guidance. The employer is responsible for effectively controlling exposure by employing adequate control measures, both ‘hardware’ such as LEV, and work practices.
LEV Thorough Examination and Test (TExT)
Dust or fume extraction systems must be tested at least once in a period of 14 months to comply with Regulation 9 of CoSHH and HSG258 guidance.
An EFS LEV (TExT) includes a site visit to examine the systems and gain several readings.
We then compare these readings to the previous LEV test and the commissioning data to ensure the machine’s performance has not dropped. We then conduct a qualitative test, which may be a dust lamp or smoke tube, to confirm adequate exposure control.
EFS will produce a detailed report which includes photographs and a drawing of the system. This report will be accompanied by a covering letter highlighting any issues that require attention. In addition, we will provide advice on recommended employee checks.
Service Maintenance and Repairs of LEV Systems
An efficient, well-serviced extraction system matters – it’s what keeps your people safe. It’s what keeps your business compliant with HSG258 and the COSHH regulations. It ensures production keeps running. And it ensures that your extraction system is working optimally, removing more contaminants, using less energy to do it, and prolonging the life of your equipment.
We can take responsibility for the proper operation of your filter unit. EFS service all makes and models of filter units. Our service engineers come from a technical engineering background and thoroughly understand the workings of any filter unit.
We can develop bespoke service packages tailored to your needs. For example, we offer either a single visit or a service contract. In addition, EFS can create an annual schedule of the necessary maintenance required to keep systems operating within the HSE and SEPA guidelines.
Dust Control Optimisation
Underperforming pulse jet dust collectors are usually the result of high dust loading, inefficient cleaning systems – or a combination of both. These problems, unchecked, can result in process bottlenecks and increased operating costs.
At EFS, you will find the experts to solve these problems using tools and techniques gained over various applications.
Leak Testing for Dust Collectors
A “Leak Detection Test” – or UV fluorescent dye powder test – is a common practice used to help facilities encounter emissions problems. However, you may have already learned the hard way that a few leaking bags within your dust collector can increase emissions that can impact your ability to stay in environmental compliance.
Leak tests can precisely identify filter bags that have failed or uncover a breach between the dirty air and clean air plenum in your baghouse system. Unfortunately, these are often difficult – or nearly impossible – to identify and adequately locate using the naked eye. Fabric filter bag failures can come from many sources, including improper bag fit, spark holes, abrasion, thermal excursions, or chemical conditions in the gas stream, to name a few sources. Our expert team specialise in leak detection.
Dust Testing Services
Our hazard classification test offers a qualitative assessment of whether or not a suspended dust cloud can initiate and sustain an explosion in the presence of ignition sources. EFS test four different ignition sources; 10 KV electric spark, hot coil ignition, high temperature (1000oC) and low energy chemical igniters.
Our engineers have a strong background in combustible dust issues.
Explosion testing for hazard classification is made on visual observation of flame propagation in the first three tests and on explosion pressure increase for the chemical igniters in an enclosed volume.
Carbon CTC (Butane) Testing
Carbon Tetrachloride Activity measures the loading of carbon tetrachloride, weight percent on carbon, at concentrations close to saturation in the air. The method is a measure of the pore volume of the activated carbon and is primarily used as a quality assurance test for activated carbon production.
As of early 2019, our QA clearance test for carbon activity changed from the CTC test to the Butane test.
We will continue to report CTC activity on all relevant documentation, but in future, this will be derived from the Butane test by correlation.
This approach has been industry practice since the sale, and the use of Carbon Tetrachloride and other CFCs have been banned and restricted respectively under the Montreal Protocol, owing to ozone depletion.
