Case study: ATEX-rated Dust Collector for CNC Milling Dust Exposure

Process

When our client, who primarily supports the naval defence industry provided us details of a process in which were they were generating airborne dust. EF Specialists were given the task to provide a turnkey solution to ensure control of these hazardous substances.

With the dust being classed as combustible, our first step was to send a sample to the laboratory to identify the KST and Pmax values for this new installation. This process permitted us to confirm the classification as an ST1 dust, and for solutions to be created via our design process.

Substance Type: CNC Milling Dust

Design and Manufacturing Considerations:

  • Due to the large surface area to be covered across the CNC bed, it was agreed that we would have two articulated booms with magnetic sputniks hoods.
  • This fully ATEX system with explosion relief panels and isolation barrier valves uses a reverse jet pulsing cleaning system to ensure low differential pressure when in operation.
