Case Study: Grinding Booth Dust

EF Specialists have been working closely with a long-standing client for the Aerospace industry in a multi-phase project to replace existing LEV systems. The client was having trouble with large amounts of grinding dust settling around the hood and not being picked up which could potentially recirculate back around the building.

The process involves operators running pendulum grinders on titanium parts after they have been shot-blasted to ensure no slag is left on the parts. Due to the aggressive grinding process and heavy dust, a suitably sized fan capable of carrying the heavy particles to the collection unit had to be sourced.

After cost-benefit analysis, it was found that the maintenance expenses were stacking up. A solution was proposed which involved replacing the system with a modern VCD system with improved filter cleaning, which should save money in the long run.

EF Specialists worked alongside our client to plan out an holistic solution. Our engineers visited site, measured everything, and submitted technical proposals and CAD drawings before proceeding with the work.

Technical Proposal

  • Nederman LCP 10-70 Cartridge filter unit
  • 15 kW Fan with a duty of 29000 m3/hr
  • 420 m2 spun bonded polyester filter area
  • 6 Bar Reverse jet pulse cleaning system
  • 2 x 100 litre collection bins
  • DW144 compliant Heavy gauge (2mm thick) smooth bore extraction ductwork

CAD Drawing

Once everything was approved, installation and commissioning was undertaken quickly to avoid any interruptions to production, which was key for our client.
